How is Big House DJ Services better than a band?
There are many reasons! The music will never stop because we don't
take breaks between sets. We can play a huge variety of music (just
check out our Play List). All of the music
sounds just like you hear it on the radio.
We can play all of your requests (not just
those that the band knows). We cost
less than half as much as a band, plus you
receive both a sound and light
show.
More Questions
Do Big House DJs take requests?
Absolutely! We play the music that you and your guests want to hear.
Plus - we WON'T play the music you DON'T want to hear. If a guest
requests a song you have asked NOT be played or may be inappropriate, we
politely inform them and lead them to another song more appropriate for your
event.
More Questions
Will
Big House subcontract my event?
Under no circumstances
will Big House ever subcontract an
event. If we are not available, we
will tell you that up front so that you
may find an alternative.
More Questions
How will Big House DJs dress for my event?
We will dress anyway you like from casual to formal. Our standard
dress for weddings and corporate events is a black dinner suit and single
button white shirt. Our goal is
not to detract from the event by overshadowing the participants with flashy
clothes. It is YOUR event - the focus should be on YOU! If you
have any special requests regarding clothing, make sure to put that on your
worksheet.
More Questions
Will Big House show up early to set up for my event?
We always arrive at least one and one-half hour early for every event. In many
cases, we arrive even earlier to make sure everything is ready to go on
time. Once at your event location, we coordinate with photographers,
videographers, caterers and event supervisors to make sure your event runs
smoothly.
More Questions
Who will control the volume at my event?
You will. We don't want to hurt anyone's hearing or offend
anyone. Simply tell us if the volume is either too loud or too soft
and we will immediately adjust our sound system. For sound during
meals, we keep the volume to a level that enables everyone to be able to
carry on a conversation without raising their voices. Once the dancing
begins, the volume is raised to a level appropriate for your event location.
More Questions
Does Big House use professional equipment?
All of our DJ equipment is professional and top-of-the-line in the DJ
industry. We have a variety of equipment that is interchangeable so
that we can adapt to any size location.
More Questions
Does
Big House have a backup system in case
of equipment failure?
Big House uses computer-based music
systems. If one system ever goes
down (which has happened only once in ten
years), we always have a backup ready to
go. We carry two or
three full sound systems with us in case
of an emergency. You can be
assured that we are ready in the rare
case of a problem.
More Questions
What will your equipment look like when set up?
We do our best to minimize the impact of our equipment on your event.
We try to place our speakers in less visible areas and run our cables as unobtrusively
as possible. Pictures of our setup may be found on our Photos
page. If you choose to use our lighting and effects (see our Lighting
and Effects page), be aware that we will have lights set up over our
heads. We do our best to minimize the amount of wiring
that can be seen. We will need
two chairs (no table is necessary). The entire set-up is only about eight feet wide and five to eight
feet deep. It may seem like a lot, but we can usually tuck ourselves
into a corner near the dance floor (see the picture on our Wedding
page of our setup at Nazareth Hall). Again, location is entirely up to
you!
More Questions
How
many times will you announce the name of
your company during our event?
Zero. None.
Nada. No way. Your event
should not be looked at as an
opportunity for us to advertise.
We have more business than we can
handle, so advertising is not
necessary. If you choose to
recognize us in your event program or
announcements, that is fine.
However, we will not bring up our name
unless it has been requested.
More Questions
Don't you put up a large Big House DJ Services sign?
No. We don't even put up a small one. Not even a tiny one.
Not even an itsy-bitsy, teeny-weenie . .
. - okay - you get the picture.
More Questions
Oh,
come on - you must do some type of
advertising - like putting your business
card on all of the tables!
We will not place
advertisements on your tables (that's
extremely tacky). We don't even say our
name!!! If someone enjoys our
service, we do have business cards available but we NEVER use your event to
advertise ourselves. We have built our business on word of
mouth. A good dj service does not need a big sign or to litter a lot
of small ones on every table! Our setup can
be viewed on our Photos
page. You will notice that there
is not a "Big House DJ" sign
in any picture!
More Questions
Do we need to feed the Big House DJs?
No. We do not eat unless we are specifically invited to do so.
We do ask that you inform us prior to the event whether we will be invited
to partake or not so we can prepare ourselves (by grabbing a bite on the
way). Please remember that we are at the facility usually a few hours
before you arrive and at least an hour after you leave.
More Questions
Will Big House DJs drink alcohol?
Under no circumstances will our DJs drink alcohol prior to or during your
event. Even if offered, we will not drink. Do not be offended by
this! It is our opinion that we are there to do our best to make your
event the best it can be. Alcohol consumption by the DJs can only
serve to hurt - not help your event.
More Questions
How far is Big House DJ Services willing to travel for an event?
We are willing to travel anywhere. In the past, we have provided DJ
Services for events around the state of Ohio and into Michigan and Indiana.
We give you a travel allowance of up to 40 miles round
trip. Longer distances will require a per diem based on mileage and
may require a hotel stay at your expense. Contact us for more
information!
More Questions
May
we see Big House DJs in at work before
we hire them?
It depends. We NEVER invite
prospective clients to private events or
wedding receptions (do you really want
people you didn't invite to show up at
your event?). However, if we are
at a public function (school dance,
festivals, etc), you are perfectly
welcome to come and see us. Please
let us know so that we can tell you when
and where we will be! Please be
aware that the majority of our work is
taken up by wedding receptions - so
there is a good chance that there won't
be any public events that will fit
within your hiring schedule. For
references - see the next question!
More Questions
Do
you have any references?
Of course! You may contact Nazareth Hall, Becky
Spencer with YMCA Toledo (email her at bspencer@ymcatoledo.org)
or give
us a call for others. We are the
official dj's for the Julie O'Connell
Dancers, the Zenobia Shrine, Barn Jam and the Love Shack.
More Questions
What
are the charges for a Big House DJ Services event?
See our Prices page.
More Questions
Does Big House require a
retainer fee and a signed contract?
Yes. We require non-refundable retainer fee of at least 25% on all events. We
will send you a contract and expect you to return it with your signature and
retainer fee within one month. Your date is not officially secure until
your retainer fee and contract is in our hands. However, we will not book
another event on your day while your contract is outstanding. If we do
not receive your retainer fee and contract by your due date listed on your
contract, we reserve to rebook
the date without notice.
More Questions
Is my retainer fee
refundable?
No. Your retainer fee is non-refundable to protect us from lost bookings
due to us scheduling your event.
More Questions
Will Big House schedule more than one event on the same day?
No - unless the events are far enough apart to provide for plenty of time to
set-up and tear-down. On a regular basis we provide music for events
during the day (such as cheerleading competitions, dance programs, athletic
events) that have
a firm, stated ending time. We will schedule an evening event on the
same day, as long as we know for sure that we have plenty of time between
both events. We will inform you of this prior to booking EITHER event
and allow you the right of first refusal (unless the event during the day
was already scheduled).
More Questions
When is the balance due?
One week prior to your event - NO EXCEPTIONS! We do not feel
it is proper to work out payment at events (the last thing you should be
thinking about is making sure the dj is paid!). All schools must have
all payment processing done BEFORE the event.
More Questions
Does Big House DJ Services charge an overtime fee?
It depends on the type of event and our original quoted price. In
general, overtime fees apply after midnight at a per hour charge. If
there is an overtime fee, it will be clearly spelled out on your contract
what it is and when it applies. See our Prices
page for more information.
More Questions
When do I get the worksheets for my event?
We will send you all of the information you need to make your event a
success once we receive your signed contract and retainer.
More Questions
Will you meet with me prior to my event?
That decision is up to you! If you would like to meet us, we are
always available to meet with you. After you receive your worksheets and
tips, you may decide you want a personal meeting. Most of our
customers have discovered that our worksheets are more than capable of
handling most, if not all questions regarding an event. Again, the
decision is up to you! We would love to meet with you if that is what
you desire.
